Lighten Up!
Experiment with light in a variety of fun ways using databot’s light sensor and software to analyze the differences between natural and artificial light, explore the differences in reflective surfaces, learn how light is measured and represented in units, and contemplate the mysteries of the inverse square law!
Green Spaces, Comfortable Places
Micro-climates provide an awesome opportunity for study in your own backyard. Campers explore the variables that contribute to variances in local climate on a micro scale and hunt for examples using databot™. Campers explore the various units of measurement for temperature and also how materials effect temperature.
It Smells Like Rain
Can you say petrichor? Micro-climate explorations in humidity. Dew point, relative humidity, and the weather report become crystal clear and the day culminates with a rocking personal humidity experience in which students measure themselves using databot™!
The Future's So Bright
Ultraviolet light surrounds us and bathes us in radiation every time we walk out the door. Campers explore the different types of UV light and the light spectrum and conduct experiments with materials that block UV radiation.
There's a Storm a Brewin'
Bombogenesis and bomb cyclones, weather patterns, and even animal behaviors are affected by changes in air pressure. Students explore how air pressure is measured, how it changes with altitude, and even predict the weather based on their analysis.
I'll Huff, and I'll Puff
Students meet Mr. CO2 using the databot™ air quality sensor! Activities related to exercise and CO2 production, micro-climate investigations, photosynthesis, the greenhouse effect and more provide a great introduction to an incredibly important gas we interact with every minute of every day!
Dancing to the Music
What happens when we can “see” sound?! Databoteers explore sound wave analysis, pitch and frequency, amplitude and volume, wave interference through mimicing sounds, studying patterns in music and more using databot’s™ built-in sound sensor.
Cat Burglar
Exploration in 3 dimensions takes place as campers learn the inner workings of databot’s™ accelerometer. Once mastered, students are challenged to crazy match-making games such as looking at motion data and trying to mimic it, or execute movements with their body while holding databot™ perfectly still. Math in motion.
Spin to Win
Physics and math are a beautiful thing as students explore the physics of the perfect football spiral, the rotating speed of a figure skater, inertia and dizziness, G forces, and more using databot’s™ magical motion sensors.
Northern Lights Concert
Explore databot’s™ magnetic personality using the built-in magnetometer! Students visualize magnetic forces, determine direction by analyzing magnetic data, and play a game where they are challenged to make music based on their understanding the earth’s magnetic field!
Up, Up and Away
Students explore altitude, earth’s aura, how altitude can be measured through atmospheric pressure, the effects of altitude on the human body, what’s going on as we move up through the atmosphere, and more using databot’s™ altimeter functionality.
Cool It Baby!
Cool beans! Students use databot’s™ external temperature probe to explore chemical reactions, their own body temperatures, differences in temperature from the air to depths in the ground, water temperature versus air temperature and the general concept of “what is temperature?!”
